Aviation Students Receive Certificates

December 21, 2023

Students in 黑料正能量鈥檚 Aviation Systems Technology program were awarded certificates at a special presentation on Dec. 13.

Aviation Systems Technology students who received certificates are Roman Reconnu, Matthew Raper, Sean Logan, Jacob Sheets, and Colin Best (back row left to right); Wade Parker, Jason McCardle, Nicholas Hayes, Gabriel Modlin, Keonte Sidbury, and Tyler Belcastro (middle row left to right); Hunter Rogowski, Jeffrey Baginski, Gabriel Norris, and Christopher Moore (front row left to right).

Some students received Airframe and/or Powerplant Certificates of Completion, allowing them to take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) general and airframe and/or powerplant mechanic written exams.

鈥淥nce they pass both of those tests, they can call a designated mechanic examiner and take the oral and practical tests,鈥 said WCC Aviation Systems Technology Instructor Mike Crumpler. 鈥淚f they successfully pass that experience, they will be issued a temporary Airframe or Powerplant Mechanic certificate so that they may exercise their new privileges until their permanent certificates arrive.鈥

Most of the students received General Certificates of Completion, which will allow them to take the FAA鈥檚 general written exam before they complete further rating certifications.

Colin Best says he has always had 鈥渁 mechanical mind鈥 and wanted to apply that in the field of aircraft mechanics. 鈥淚 decided to try this program out and see how I liked it, and I instantly fell in love with the community and the entire industry,鈥 he said. 鈥淭his is the most fun I鈥檝e ever had at school.鈥

Best is excited to have completed this step and received his general certification. 鈥淓verything they teach you here is directly applicable to what you鈥檙e doing in the field, which is so awesome,鈥 he shared. 鈥淚鈥檓 one step closer to being an A & P [airframe and powerplant mechanic].鈥

Gabriel Modlin is also fascinated by what he鈥檚 learning in the program. 鈥淚 started this program because I thought airplanes were cool and wanted to see the ins and outs of how they work,鈥 he said.

鈥淚t feels great to have received the general certificate,鈥 Modlin said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a big weight off my shoulders. Now I can move on to the other certifications.鈥 He also plans on getting his pilot鈥檚 license after completing the course.
