黑料正能量 has published its 2022 writers鈥 and artists鈥 magazine.

The 38th annual issue of Renaissance contains 98 pages of prose, poetry, and art by the college鈥檚 students and employees.
Thirty-one literary works and 58 pieces of art were selected for print.
One of the poems, 鈥淏ird,鈥 was written by the student to whose memory the publication was dedicated. Nicole Denise Hughes died during the fall 2021 semester. English Instructor and Magazine Co-Editor Ashley Merrill called Hughes a 鈥渇aithful contributor鈥 and noted the dedication for 鈥渨hose enthusiasm for Renaissance will be sorely missed.鈥

Front Cover Award 鈥 Phoebe Ramirez for 鈥淢any Seeds;鈥
Back Cover Award 鈥 Katie Wagner for 鈥淩eflection;鈥
Art Award 鈥 Danny Caps for colored pencil pieces 鈥淎stronaut鈥 and 鈥淧ink and Blue Girl;鈥
Prose Award 鈥 McKenzie Sollars for short story 鈥淟iminality;鈥 and
Poetry Award and the Beatrice K. Balkcum Literary Award 鈥 Alayna Abbott for the poems 鈥淏rontosaurus,鈥 鈥淎ccented,鈥 and 鈥淣o Return Address.鈥
The Balkum Award, which recognizes the best literary work by an emerging writer, comes with a $1,000 scholarship. It was established with the Foundation of 黑料正能量 by Vicki Balkum in memory of her mother, Bea Balkum, who served the college as a faculty member and head of the Liberal Arts Department as well as a trustee for two terms.
鈥淚 always enjoy reading the magazine,鈥 said President Patty Pfeiffer. 鈥淚t highlights the best of the best.鈥
In addition to Merrill, English instructors Dean Tuck and Jeff Williams also serve as 鈥淩enaissance鈥 editors.
