WCC Achievement Coach Chad Evans recently graduated from the North Carolina Student Success Center鈥檚 Equity Coach Academy.

The statewide program focuses on DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging). Through the program鈥檚 classes, participants were taught to look at scenarios through an 鈥渆quity lens.鈥
鈥淲hat may look good to one person may not look good to everyone. That might be equality, but it鈥檚 not equity,鈥 Evans explained.
The academy鈥檚 participants took self-reflection surveys to get insight on how they could implement practices from their different strengths and abilities on their campuses.
鈥淲e look at things through one lens in society, but we must look through an equity lens to make sure things are equitable for all parties involved,鈥 Evans said.
As an equity champion, Evans will help set up and implement DEIB constructs on WCC鈥檚 campus, ensuring students, faculty, and staff are seeing their needs met. 鈥淥ne of the key points of the DEIB academy is making sure we鈥檙e looking at everything full scale,鈥 he said. 鈥淣ow I can utilize my knowledge and abilities to help our campus.鈥
Evans is a graduate of WCC鈥檚 Business Administration / Operations Management program. He received a bachelor鈥檚 degree in business administration from North Carolina Wesleyan University where he is now pursuing a master鈥檚 degree in the same subject. Evans plans to work toward obtaining a doctorate degree.
He began working at WCC as the minority male coordinator, helping to increase the minority male presence at the College. Evans then became a recruiter before transitioning to his current position in 2019.
