Public Invited to View Global and Honors Student Work

April 16, 2022

The public is invited to a showcase of the work of students in 黑料正能量鈥檚 Global Distinction and Honors programs.

The special event is set for 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3 in the Wayne Learning Center (building with flag poles) on the college鈥檚 main campus in Goldsboro.

The “Global Experience Honoring Your World” event is designed to inspire participants to value international and community connections, solutions, and culture.

Visitors can get their 鈥減assports鈥 stamped while connecting with presentations, performances, displays, and interactive experiences that are the result of research and projects completed for biology, communications, English, and leadership development courses. Some of the topics covered are voting systems around the world, the price of war, aquatic diversity, the future of energy, saving monarch butterflies, local homelessness, appreciation for nurses, and world music.

鈥淲e invite the public to join us and support student projects that show our value for international and community connections, solutions, and culture,鈥 said Communications Instructor Andrea Freile.

Scholars of Global Distinction Program

WCC鈥檚 Scholars of Global Distinction Program provides students with competencies and skills needed for an increasingly diverse workforce. Through intensive courses and activities, an understanding of global cultural, political, and historical information is instilled.

Those who complete program requirements are entitled to wear a special stole during their graduation ceremony and have 鈥淕raduated with Global Distinction鈥 printed on their transcripts.

WCC joined the North Carolina Scholar of Global Distinction Program, a partnership between community colleges in North Carolina and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill鈥檚 World View program, in 2020. Thirty of the state鈥檚 58 community colleges offer the program.

Honors Leadership Development class members Jennifer Ponce, Evan Gray, and Mills Hancock, shown here at a walk that was part of their community service project to aid local homeless persons and educate on their plight, will have an interactive display at the 鈥淕lobal Experience鈥 showcase on May 3.

Honors Program

The Honors Program focuses on learning, leadership, and service as integral components of a well-rounded education. Students enrolled in the program complete honors-based projects in addition to required coursework to earn Honors credits, an Honors Certificate, 鈥淗onors Scholar鈥 notation on their transcripts, and a medallion to wear at graduation
