Scholarships Available for Machining Students

June 28, 2021

黑料正能量 has a new scholarship for machining students.

Students who are entering the college鈥檚 Computer-Integrated Machining program can apply for a $1,000 Gene Haas Scholarship. They must be new to the program but can be current students.

Twenty scholarships will be awarded for the Fall 2021 semester.

鈥淭he ideal candidate would be someone who is dedicated and likes to work and make objects with their hands. They can expect to learn a wide variety of skills such as milling, turning, etching, cutting, drafting, and designing for the manufacturing field,鈥 said Machining Technology Instructor Bailee Daniels.

WCC offers associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates in the Computer-Integrated Machining program. The WCC degree transfers into East Carolina University鈥檚 Industrial Technology bachelor鈥檚 degree program.

Tuition and fees for one semester at WCC are currently $1,262 for full-time, in-state students.

The scholarships were made聽possible by a Gene Haas Foundation grant that is designed to help expand the availability of high-quality manufacturing technology training worldwide. The foundation donates millions of dollars every year to manufacturing education and the community. In 2020, the Gene Haas Foundation provided more than $17 million in grants, bringing the total since inception to more than to $100 million.

鈥淭he Haas Foundation is very generous for donating these funds and has continued to work with the instructors here at WCC to apply for more scholarship opportunities for current and future students in the Computer-Integrated Machining program,鈥 Daniels said.

The deadline to apply is July 18. For details on the application process, email聽Daniels 聽or Instructor David Meek.
