The new president of the North Carolina Community College System visited 黑料正能量 Wednesday to share his vision and learn about the local college.

鈥淎lthough there are 58 unique campuses across the state, we鈥檙e united,” President Thomas Stith III, who has served as the system鈥檚 chief since January of this year, told members of the WCC President鈥檚 Council.

The colleges are 鈥渁 family,鈥 Stith said, due to 鈥渢he passion I see when I am in rooms like this, the commitment to education, commitment that students have a pathway to success.鈥

Stith briefed the college officials on the 鈥渢hree pillars鈥 of his goals for the system. Under his leadership, the colleges will
* be the first choice for affordable/accessible education;
* 鈥渂e the leading entity in North Carolina鈥檚 economic recovery and going forward鈥 with sustained growth – 鈥満诹险芰 in particular;鈥 and
* 鈥渆stablish ourselves as a national model for diversity and inclusion.鈥

Stith heard from WCC officials about the college鈥檚 numerous recent accolades and how it is meeting the area鈥檚 workforce and economic development challenges, particularly highlighting apprenticeships and the future Center for Industrial Technology and Engineering.

The group also toured two of the college鈥檚 Nursing Simulation Lab and the Ash Building which houses automotive and collision repair and refinishing programs.

Such innovative facilities and the programs that operate in them illustrate how community colleges are rising to meet the needs of business, industry, and residents, Stith said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e doing great work and we鈥檙e going to tell folks about it,鈥 he said.
