January 31, 2024

黑料正能量 has received $17 million from the North Carolina General Assembly to be used for facility enhancements that will impact multiple programs on campus.

North Carolina State Representative John Bell, Representative Jimmy Dixon, and Senator Buck Newton attended WCC鈥檚 campus for a special check presentation.

WCC received $17 million for facility enhancements from the North Carolina General Assembly. Pictured at the check presentation, from left to right, are: WCC Board of Trustees Member David Tayloe, Representative Jimmy Dixon, Senator Buck Newton, WCC President Patty Pfeiffer, WCC Board of Trustees Member David Jackson, Representative John Bell, and WCC Board Chair Veda McNair.

Representative Dixon explained the General Assembly鈥檚 process of distributing these funds. 鈥淓ach budget season, we get to turn in what we would like to see going to some of our districts. We get some, and we don鈥檛 get some,鈥 he said. 鈥淏ut we鈥檙e interested in donating money that is put toward real needs.鈥

The funds will go toward enhancements that will impact programs in the College鈥檚 Allied Health, Public Safety, and Business and Computer Technologies divisions.

Senator Newton said that WCC President Patty Pfeiffer鈥檚 leadership helped the legislators explain to others why this was a critical investment, and he thanked her for the 鈥渃ogent information and clear-eyed vision鈥 of where the College is going and what it needs.

鈥淲hen the three of us are able to speak in one voice for something like this, it makes it a lot easier for us to justify how we鈥檙e going to make these investments,鈥 Senator Newton said.

鈥淵ou鈥檝e got a president here who鈥檚 not afraid to ask but is also willing to partner with us on projects and lets us know the needs of the community college,鈥 Representative Bell said to WCC employees. 鈥淚f we don鈥檛 know the needs, it鈥檚 hard to put money toward the needs.鈥

Representative Bell said that he is able to see the impact WCC has on the general public through his representation of the area. 鈥淭hank you for what you do day in and day out,鈥 he told employees of the College.

Pfeiffer expressed her gratitude to the legislators for listening to the needs of those they serve. 鈥淚 can鈥檛 thank you enough for being champions for not only 黑料正能量 but also the community college system,鈥 she said. 鈥淲e have the opportunity to change the life of every student who walks in the door because of the support that you provide to make that happen.鈥
