黑料正能量 student Gaby Rivera was selected to present at the annual North Carolina Honors Association conference last month.
Rivera is in WCC鈥檚 Honors Program and Scholars of Global Distinction. She is working toward an Associate in Arts degree and will graduate this fall.
During the conference, Rivera鈥檚 presentation, titled 鈥淧assion 4 Paws,鈥 highlighted the service project she and a group of classmates completed in their Leadership Development class.

The group collected food and toys for animals that they donated to the Wayne County Animal Shelter. They also set up a booth at WCC鈥檚 Global Scholars and Honors showcase this spring where other students, faculty, and community members helped make around 70 DIY dog toys by braiding strips of fabric.

Rivera noted that the group intended to inspire others in her community, especially those in younger generations, to get involved with local organizations.
The conference, hosted by Brinson Honors College at Western Carolina University, had a theme of 鈥淗ere & Now: The Power of Place.鈥
WCC鈥檚 Honors Program focuses on learning, leadership, and service as integral components of a well-rounded education. Students who meet the academic criteria and enroll in Associate in Arts or Associate in Science programs are eligible to apply. Learn more on WCC鈥檚 website.
