Educator Preparation Program – Residency Licensure Certificates
ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿ is pleased to offer education residency programs that will support newly hired teachers in need of a residency license. As a team, we will collaborate through your beginning teacher years all the way through licensure.
We offer the following Residency Programs:
- Elementary Education
- Special Education
- High School Math
- Middle School Math
- High School Science
- Middle School Science
Through this Educator Preparation Program (EPP), ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿ will provide:
- Supportive coursework
- One-on-one advising, mentoring and coaching by experienced professionals
- In-person observations
- Step-by-step guidance through the process of receiving licensure
- Partnership with the local education agency to provide the best possible experience
Admissions Requirements
Eligibility
The Residency Licensure Certificate program is designed for college graduates who hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and desire to become a teacher.
For admission into the program, the candidate must:
- Must be a U.S. citizen, or eligible for employment.
- Have completed a bachelor’s degree with a 2.7 GPA or higher.
- Have completed 24 hours of coursework in the requested licensure area
- Provide a letter of employment or promised placement from a PSU/LEA in a public or public charter school as a lead teacher/teacher of record position that requires a teaching license.

Special Notes for your Plan of Study
- Each course requires observations by the EPP director and/or assigned coach.
- In addition to 18 hours of course work, you are required to successfully complete edTPA requirements for the State of North Carolina and a passing score on required state Praxis/Pearson testing before being recommended for licensure.
- You are required to set up a DPI NC account and apply to NCDPI Online Licensure System
- Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) will complete the V Form upon completion.
- Your plan of study remains valid if:
- You remain employed as a lead teacher under the residency in a DPI-approved NC LEA
- You earn a grade of C or better in all residency courses and you have a GPA of 2.7 or higher.
